OR GOP Chair: Pelosi’s Government-Run
Health Care Experiment
Is Wrong for Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore.Oregon Republican Party Chairman Bob Tiernan issued the following statement on Monday the passage of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats’ government-run health care experiment:

“The House vote on Saturday is disappointing for Oregonians as Nancy Pelosi, Kurt Schrader, David Wu, and Peter DeFazio ignored the concerns of voters and rammed a trillion dollar 1,990 page government-run health care bill through Congress, ignoring pledges of transparency and bi-partisanship.  Oregonians for generations will be forced to deal with the consequences of this legislation that increases health care costs, increases taxes on small businesses and the middle class, cuts Medicare and puts a Washington bureaucrat between you and your doctor.

“Last Tuesday, the American people made clear at the polls that they oppose bigger government, more spending and higher taxes, but this is exactly what they are getting with this new government-run health care legislation. Kurt Schrader, David Wu, and Peter DeFazio chose to vote with their liberal buddies in Washington rather than in the best interest of their constituents back home, and this vote will not be forgotten by Oregon voters in 2010,”  Chairman Tiernan concluded.

Pew Center says Oregon is in ‘peril’
November 11, 2009

The  Pew Center on the States puts Oregon and eight other states hard hit by the recession on its list called “Beyond California: States in Fiscal Peril.”

The report says some of the same pressures that have pushed California toward economic disaster are wreaking havoc in a number of other states, with potentially damaging consequences for residents and the entire country.

Other states listed are: Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.

Budget problems could cause higher taxes and fees; layoffs or furloughs of state workers; longer waits for public services; more crowded classrooms; higher college tuition and less support for the poor or unemployed, the report said. The nine states plus California account for more than one-third of America’s population and economic output and thus could impact the entire U.S., Pew says…
