Oppose HB 2306
‘Makes all County and City Offices non-partisan’

HB2306 – A bill that ‘Makes all County and City Offices non-partisan’ will be Introduced at the House Rules Committee on Monday February 25th after 3:00 PM in Hearing Room 50. (see Hearing Agenda below)

If passed into law, this bill would force counties to hold non-partisan elections for county commissioners and city councils, limiting local control and limiting knowledge of party identification of candidates. This bill would limit the amount of information we have on candidates for office by not requiring them to identify with a party (or not) and run in a primary. This is a shot at the Republican Party, to which many local officials are members. This bill would diminish the role of the Party in electing County Commissioners and City Councilors.

Every County and City should be allowed to choose for themselves if they want to hold partisan elections.

We urge all County Chairs to ask their Republican County Commissioners and City Councilors, who are Republicans to come to the First Public Hearing to testify, and to contact Members of the House Rules Committee and urge them to oppose the bill.
