The Democrat SIEU is for Turner in HD 58 Race

John Turner received the official endorsement of the SEIU on April 28: http://www.seiu503.org/2014/04/seiu-503-members-endorse-john-turner-in-hd-58/

“SEIU members have been out door knocking for Turner in district 58”

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a labor union representing about 1.9 million workers in over 100 occupations. SEIU is focused on organizing workers in three sectors: health care (over half of members work in the health care field), including hospital, home care and nursing home workers; public services (local and state government employees); and property services (including janitors and security officers and food service workers).

SEIU is the fastest growing labor union in the United States and has over 150 local branches. SEIU is based in Washington, D.C.

The union states that its top priorities are to stand up for working families to help bring economic relief to millions across the country, fix the nation’s “broken health care system,” and fight to guarantee workers’ rights on the job. SEIU is sometimes referred to as the “purple ocean” at political events because of the union’s recognizable purple shirts. The union is also known for its strong support for Democratic candidates. It spent $28 million supporting Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election, making it the “organization that spent the most to help Barack Obama get elected president. The SEIU expects endorsed candidates to stand up for its positions on important issues before the legislature.  The SEIU CAPE board interviews dozens of candidates for state and local office before making its endorsements.  It is a rigorous endorsement process and includes candidate training: http://www.seiu503.org/2014/04/seiu-members-interview-candidates/

The SEIU efforts in the Oregon election of 2012 were instrumental in shifting the balance of power in Salem to the Democrats.  The 2013 Oregon House of Representatives saw a 34-26 Democratic/Republican split (instead of the 30-30 split before the election), and the 2013 State Senate was 16-14 in favor of the Democrats: http://www.seiu503.org/2012/11/oregon-voters-elect-more-than-three-quarters-of-seiu-endorsed-candidates/

“A lot of money and time was spent on these races all across the state.  Union volunteers, members and staff had knocked on more than 52,000 doors and made more than 170,000 phone calls. Candidates and others recognized the huge and tangible difference our union help made in these races.”

SEIU supports gun control: http://spsc.seiu.org/2013/02/05/the-time-is-now-for-gun-control-increased-workplace-safety/

SEIU supports abortion and many other liberal causes: http://cironline.org/sites/default/files/legacy/files/flash/seiu.html

SEIU finances much of its agenda using the union dues paid by workers.
